How would you prioritize expenses like owner discounts, worker pay and benefits, product affordability, educational programming, and investment in our local and regional communities? How much is Central Co-op ownership worth to you? How much do you trust your co-op?
Co-op management and the Board of Trustees want your input on these and other important questions. Please fill out this brief survey to let us know your strategic and budget priorities for your co-op.
Please fill out only one survey. We prioritize input from our owners, workers, exempt members and vendors. All survey data is confidential, and will be used to inform and advise our strategic planning and budgeting process currently underway.
The Board of Trustees is the body which, representing our owners, guides Central Co-op and the policies that it adopts. To do this effectively, the board as a whole needs trustees with a broad array of skills and experience. We are looking for community leaders and members with effective communication skills and a history of working with teams, who can identify the needs of the community and find ways that the co-op can meet these needs.
Central Co-op thrives with the participation of our diverse membership; If you or anyone you know would like to further engage with your co-op, check out the Candidate Application Packet for details about Board of Trustees candidacy. And if you have any questions, you can e-mail the board or call 206.329.1545.
update: Just label it!
We did it! We reached our goal of one million signatures on the historic Just Label It petition by March 27th, 2012, the FDA's deadline to respond.
But in a surprising turn of events that illuminates some of our governmental processes, the FDA's count differs wildly from JLI's: The FDA is recording just 394 comments, not one million signatures.
The FDA also responded by saying they needed more time to respond.
Regardless of the FDA's response, we can be confident that we're sending our message loud and clear to the biotech industry, governmental insitututions, and our neighbors throughout the country and across the world: We want labels on GE food and we are claiming the right to know what's in our food.
For more on the FDA's count and response, check out the Chicago Tribune's coverage. (We thank the Tribune for covering this important topic!) For information on JLI's next steps, stay tuned here and to justlabelit.org. Read more about Central Co-op and genetically modified organisms and genetic engineering here. Thank you for stewarding our shared food system!
